OFFICER TONY SMITH (Owner/Instructor)
Tony Smith is the Owner and Instructor of Little Rock K-9 Academy. Tony started Little Rock K-9 Academy in 1983. He attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock were he worked toward a B.S. in Psychology.
He is a Patrolman for the Shannon Hills Police Department. Since 1983 Tony as attended a variety of Schools and Seminars throughout the United States in training areas such as: Narcotic Detector Dogs, Tracking, Obedience, Patrol Dogs and also he has completed a seminar by the U.S. Border Patrol on K-9 selection testing, detector dog training and problem solving for Narcotic Detector Dogs. Tony serves on the Board of Directors for the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association. He is the N.N.D.D.A. (Arkansas Region) Training Coordinator and competition Judge. During his career, he has assisted several hundred K-9 teams with training and certifications.
Since 1995, Tony has trained over 200 Narcotic Detector Dogs for Law Enforcement Agencies around the United States. Officer Smith has received meritorious awards from the Arkansas’ Secretary of State Office and Little Rock Police Department for his achievements and contributions in public service. CHIEF RICHARD FRIEND (Instructor)
Richard is currently the Chief of Police for the Shannon Hills Police Department. Prior to becoming Chief of Police, Richard has completed over 1000 hours of training in areas such as: High Risk Traffic Stops & Drug Interdiction, Collinsville IL, Criminal & Highway Interdiction, Houston TX, Meridian MS. Crime Scene Investigations, Illinois State Police, Patrol & Narcotics Dog Handler's School, Denver IN, D.E.A. Meth Lab Seizure Procedures, Quantico, VA,. Richard was a K-9 handler for 7 years and promoted to K-9 Supervisor for the Saline County Sheriff's Office and was recognized twice for "Deputy of the Month". He was also assigned to Group Six Narcotic Enforcement Unit as an Undercover Narcotic Agent. He is also certified through the FBI as a crime scene technician and is a certified clan lab technician through the D.E.A.
Richard has been an Instructor at Little Rick K-9 Academy for 8 years and he has completed over 2500 hours as an Instructor. Cheif Friend was credited/awarded for making the Largest "Meth LAB" bust in Saline County's history. RICHARD’S
DUTIES:
As Chief Instructor, Richard travels all
over the country training other agencies in areas such as canine case
law, canine deployments and training records. Richard's other
duties include
submitting
all classes to Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards &
Training, providing instruction on Case Law, Courtroom Testimony and
Criminal and Highway Interdiction.

Friend addresses various law Enforcement Agencies at a week long seminar
sponored by the Louisiana District Attorneys Association. The seminar
was held in Lafayette, Louisiana. Chief Friend can visit your area as
well to give classes and presentations in the areas of: Criminal
Interdiction, Implementing a Canine Program, Case Law, Fair Labor
Standard Act Compliance and Prescription Medication Abuse.
DEPUTY JERRY DONALDSON: (Instructor)
Jerry is a K-9 Supervisor for the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department. He is a 24-year veteran of the Sheriff's Department; he has handled 5 canines during his 22 years as a dog handler. Jerry has received extensive training in all aspects of Obedience, Patrol and Narcotic Detector Dog training from some of the most recognized trainers in the United States and Europe.
Jerry is also a former member and trainer of North
American Police Work Dog Association and United States Police Canine
Association. Deputy Donaldson is the former President of the National
Narcotic Detector Dog Association and is also a National Trainer and
President of the N.N.D.D.A. National Training Committee. Deputy
Donaldson and K-9 “Aron” were awarded 1st place in the
N.N.D.D.A. (2004 Arkansas Region) Narcotic Detector Dog Competition. JERRY’S
DUTIES: Assisting with introducing Vehicle and Structural search patterns, Obedience training for Patrol and Narcotic Detector dogs, Tracking, Building search and Criminal apprehension training for Patrol dog training, providing instruction on Case Law, Courtroom Testimony, K-9 handler problem solving and Certification Standards.
OFFICER SCOTT MILLER (INSTRUCTOR)
Scott
Miller has been an Instructor at Little Rock K-9 Academy since 1999.
Scott’s is employed by the North Little Rock Police Department. Scott
has been a Policeman since 1991. Scott and K-9 “Lania” were
awarded: The First World Champion 2004, K-9 Pro Sports Patrol Dog
Competition, 2nd place 2005 N.N.D.D.A. (National) Narcotic Dog
Competition. SCOTT’S
DUTIES: Assisting with introducing Vehicle and Structural search patterns for Narcotic Detector dog training, Obedience training, Tracking, Building search and Criminal apprehension training for Patrol dog Training, K-9 handler problem solving.
CORPORAL TONY BAUGH (INSTRUCTOR)
Tony Baugh has been an Instructor at Little Rock K-9 Academy since 2003. Tony is employed by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office as a K-9 Supervisor and has been in Law Enforcement for since 2000. Corporal Tony Baugh (Instructor) Tony Baugh has been an Instructor at Little Rock K-9 Academy since 2003. Tony is the Canine Handler and the Canine Supervisor for the Saline County Sheriff's Department. Tony has received extensive training in all aspects of Obedience, Patrol and Narcotic Detector Dog training. Tony is a Certifying Official for the N.N.D.D.A. He is able to certify canine handler teams in all aspects of the Police Service Dogs and Narcotic Detector Dogs areas. Tony was recognized twice for "Deputy of the Month" and Deputy of the Year for 2004. He has completed courses in areas such as: High Risk Traffic Stops & Drug Interdiction, Collinsville, IL. Tony has been in Law Enforcement since 2000. Since then Tony has been recognized twice for “Deputy of the Month” and “Deputy of the Year for 2004”. Tony and K-9 “King” were awarded: 1st place 2004 Arkansas Regional Narcotic Competition, 1st place 2004 A.B.N.A. Patrol Dog National Competition, 3rd place 2005 N.N.D.D.A. Patrol Dog Competition, 1st place (Regional Champion) N.N.D.D.A. Narcotic Dog Competition, 3rd place, 1st place 2005 Southern States’ Man Hunt Narcotic Competition, 3rd place 2005 (Regional Champion) N.N.D.D.A. Patrol Dog Competition, 12th place 2005 N.N.D.D.A. (National) Narcotic Dog Competition. He also attended the High Risk Criminal and Drug Interdiction Class in Collinsville Illinois. He has won the 2005 A.B.N.A. National Patrol Dog Competition. TONY’S
